collapse themes in the backlog view

Michael Terkowski 12 years ago updated by Matthew O'Riordan (Founder) 12 years ago 4
As a user, I want to be able to collapse/expand themes in the backlog view/tab, so that I can de-clutter my list and focus only the themes that are important.

When grooming the backlog, I want to collapse themes that I am done dealing with, to add more visiblity to the themes that need atention.

Hi Michael

We've just launched a completely reworked interface for the story and theme tools, that includes the ability to collapse and expand themes.

Hope this solves the problem you had.

Shout if you have any further suggestions.

Nice idea!

We're thinking of ways to improve the way we present the theme and story tools to users, so when we re-look at that we will definitely consider adding a feature to expand/collapse themes.

BTW. One quick question - do you think it would be useful for the app to remember which themes are collapsed?  I am not entirely convinced it would be a good idea as it could be confusing for users, but am interested to hear what you think.  Also, I assume if a theme is collapsed and you are tabbing forwards or backwards, we should simply skip over all the collapsed stories.
I think remember which themes are collapsed might be useful, however it's definitely "nice-to-have". You can leave it out and see if it works as is.

About tabbing: Yes, the tab should skip to the next theme, because collapsing a theme means we don't want to work/review it right now.
Ok, I'll add the feature into our backlog without remembering the state of collapse for now, and see how that works from a user experience perspective.  I am worried actually that if we stored the collapsed state, we could confuse users who don't realise the theme is collapsed anyway, so this would avoid that problem.
I like this idea. Being able to collapse a theme cuts down on scrolling and improves visibility of themes that need attention.

Not sure if the ability to remember collapsed themes is important. I do think it would be great if the stories in a collapsed theme are excluded from tabbing actions. Once expanded they would be included in tabbing.

Thanks!
Ok, sure, we'll add this some time soon.  Thanks for the feedback.
