filter not working

Roger Stich 12 years ago updated by Matthew O'Riordan (Founder) 12 years ago 5
Hi folks,

if u are in Backlog an filter for accepted storys, and then open/collapse an Theme, the filter doesnt work anymore as i can see all storys in that theme.

Would it be possible to add somekind of default filter?
As a PO i never want to see accepted Stories until i search for them.
As my Backlog grows its getting messed up together with not working filters....

Hi Roger

On your first point about the open/collapse not remembering the stories that are filtered, we have fixed that bug now.  Our first stab at writing the filtering engine for the view was a bit rudimentary, so we've completely rewritten it now and I believe is way more robust.  Shout if you run into any problems.

We have also now implemented the feature so that your personal preferences in regards to your filter and collapsed themes for each backlog are remembered.  Please can you tell me what you think?  We really like it, thanks again for the suggestion.

Hi Roger

On your first point about the open/collapse not remembering the stories that are filtered, that is a bug, and thanks for pointing that one out.  We've not noticed that one before, good spot.

In terms of a default filter, we've thought about this and asked people, and we're not entirely sure we know what should be done.  If we have a default filter, it could get confusing for people who forget about this default filter.  The other option is to remember the last filter you set on the backlog you are using, and keep that setting when you return to it.  I think that would probably be the best option.  What do you think?

Matt
Hi Matt,

remembering the last filter sounds best for me. This way you can handle multiple users with different interests and everybody can filter to achieve his goals.

By the way, if u start to remeber filter settings could you then remember the open/collapse state of the themes also?
Its getting annoying if u have many UserStorys and want to edit the last theme in backlog but you have to scroll and collapse all the time the same themes again and again.

Hi Roger

I think as you say, it would make sense to remember the settings for each user for their collapsed state of themes and their chosen filters.

We'll be implementing this soon as we think this is a great feature.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback.

In terms of a default filter, we are now planning on including a system to remember your last filter settings along with which themes you have collapsed or not.  I will update this post when that feature is released.
